4G is literally turbo charging UK mobile networks, transforming the mobile internet experience for millions of smartphone and tablet users.
10 times faster than today’s networks, 4G technology allows us to download content at superfast speeds and enjoy a fast and smooth online browsing experience on mobile devices.
All of which fuels demand for yet more ‘on the go’ services from Brits. According to OFCOM, 94 per cent of UK adults now have a mobile device and are using their smartphones to get online and find what they’re looking for fast.
A missed opportunity
The message for UK PLC is if you’re not visible online, you run the risk of missing out on a wealth of potential business opportunities.
Yet a recent survey by Barclays Bank found that 89 per cent of UK businesses still don’t have a website optimised for mobile devices and are ill prepared to take advantage of the 4G mobile boom.
That’s despite the fact that 49 per cent of mobile phone users say they personally use their mobile phone to access the internet – up from 36 per cent in 2012.
With 3.8 million subscriptions to super-fast mobile broadband services in existence today, the number of super-fast connections is set to explode once 4G covers all UK networks.
Digital presence
In today’s competitive business landscape, it pays to present your business well online and to make it easy and quick for customers and prospective customers to make contact with you. That’s especially true of customers operating in the mobile world, and meeting their needs is really quite straightforward.
Any small business these days can create a mobile optimised website that’s perfectly designed to boost their visibility in online mobile searches.
For example, a single page .tel website from Telnames doesn’t cost a fortune and gives you a comprehensive and effective business profile that displays perfectly across all devices and has been specially designed with the needs of smartphone and other mobile users in mind, with essential features like click-to-call phone numbers, email links, a location map plus hyperlinks to all your social media and full .com or .co. uk website.
Accept online and mobile payments
Whatever your business, being able to offer customers a fast and safe way to instantly pay for goods and services looks professional and efficient.
The preferred online payment method for 35 per cent of UK shoppers, PayPal’s safe and convenient payment service gives customers the confidence of knowing their credit card or bank account details will never be directly visible to you.
Capture the 4G opportunity
With the number of mobile consumers set to rise in 2013 thanks to super-fast 4G, making a very small investment in a mobile-friendly online presence with Telnames is the first key step to ensuring your business is prepared to maximise every online opportunity.

Process of expiring .tel domains

Process of expiring .tel domains

Post
The point of deletion for a .tel domain is not the expiry date or the date you submit the deletion command as the registrar.

The full lifecycle is as follows:

  1. A .tel registrar can choose to process a renewal at expiry or allow the auto-renewal of a .tel to take place
  2. The Auto Renewal will take place 45 days AFTER the expiry date – during this time the domain status in WHOIS is “ok”
  3. The registrar can choose to actually process the renewal at any point during this 45 days OR just leave the domain to autorenew at the end. When it is renewed the expiry date is updated to the new expiry date (1 year from the original registration)
  4. If the owner informs the registrar that they do NOT want to renew the domain, the registrar MUST issue a DELETE command. This can be done anytime during the 45 day renewal period
  5. If a delete is requested the domain then changes status to “PENDING DELETE” and the .tel will no longer resolve

    • The domain will be in PENDING DELETE for 30 days – the owner can redeem this domain at an extra cost at any time during these 30 days
    • At the end of the 30 days there is a 5 day deletion period where nobody can redeem or purchase the name
    • At the end of the 5 days the domain will be “dropped” and available to anyone to register
As you can see, it's possible for a .tel to remain active up to 80 days after the expire date until it is deleted, depending on how it is handled by the registrar.
